30 Years
After - Preserving Our History
Mark your calendars! The organization
30 Years After invites members of the Iranian Jewish community--both young
and old--to share their memories of living as Jews in Iran. "Our Legacy
Project" is an oral history endeavor that will help us preserve Iranian
Jewish history, as very few written and recorded sources exist on the
subject. We welcome you, your parents, and your grandparents to participate
in this exciting project, so spread the word! We also invite any community
members to bring with them heirlooms representing Jewish life in Iran,
including Jewish ceremonial objects, art, and garb. Please note that one
need not bring an heirloom to participate in the oral history taping. Come and participate in this historic taping on
Sunday, February 12th, any time between 12 PM and 5 PM at Temple Israel
of Great Neck, 108 Old Mill
Road Great Neck. Each taping
should take 15-30 minutes. To register, or for more information, please
contact Lerone Edalati

“Passover
Rice Information” 2012
As per phone conversations with rice importers and receipt
of confirmation letters from them, Rabbi Eliyahu Benhaim has confirmed that the following brands of rice
are 100% pure, are not enriched, and have no additives or preservatives.
Therefore, they are suitable for use on Passover. The brands are as follows:
LALQUILA – SHAHZADEH – PARI -
ROYAL - ZEBRA - DEER BRAND - INDIA GATE (SOLD AT EVERFRESH, GREAT NECK) -
TILDA
Even though these rices are pure, Jewish Law
requires them to be cleaned at least 3 times and washed thoroughly before
use for Passover. Please avoid any enriched rice. Brown rice was not
checked. Chag Kasher Ve Sameach

Giving the benefit of the doubt
From The “ Halakha of the Day” by
Rabbi Yosef Bitton
The Tora instructs us to judge people giving
them the benefit of the doubt. By doing this,
we fulfill a very important Mitzva: betzedeq tishpot amitekha (Vayiqra 19:18) and we also
prevent one of the
main triggers of Lashon haRa.
Many times, we might be misjudging
people's actions or
attitudes toward us. The Mitzvah of giving the benefit of the doubt
consists in stopping our own
negative thoughts before they become resentment or
hatred in our heart. READ MORE.
To join the “ Halakha
of the Day” email list, simply
send an email to: Halakhaoftheday@gmail.com.
