The “Shabbat Project” comes to Great Neck
Inspired by the Shabbat Project Global Initiative, twenty-one synagogues in Great Neck have united with more than 340 communities around the world to participate in the “Shabbat Project.” The “Shabbat Project” is a unique, international movement that aims to unite all Jews around the world by keeping one Shabbat together. The INTERNATIONAL SHABBAT PROJECT will take place on October 24-25, 2014, Parashat Noach.
The Great Neck-wide Shabbat Project will be kicked off by a Community Challah Workshop at Leonard’s Palazzo on Thursday evening, October 23, 7:00 pm. For a fee of $18.00 all supplies and instruction will be provided. One setup can be shared by friends or a family without an additional charge. Please contact Dina Kalaty to register for the Challah Workshop: dkalaty@gmail.com, cell: (516) 510-6131. We encourage all of our community members to attend this exciting event to show unity with all Great Neck synagogues.
All synagogues of the UMJCA will also participate in this historic, world-wide show of Jewish unity. The community’s Shabbat Project liaisons are planning a magical Shabbat for community members of all ages.
On Friday Morning, we will hold a Community Cholent and Ash Cooking at both Shaare Shalom and Ohr Esther. Please contact Farnaz Edalati to participate: nadam26@aol.com.
On Friday Evening, all community members, men, women and children, are invited to attend services together. Because our community has been dispersed over several synagogues for many years, we are urging everyone to attend services to pray together, reconnected with their family elders, parents and children. There will be a community candle-lighting and a special Misheberakh by Rabbi Ben Haim. A family dinner package will be available at Shiraz after services. Please contact Nancy Hakimian, nancyhakimian@yahoo.com, for reservations.
For Saturday, all community members are invited to attend synagogue for Shacharit, a special Kiddush and Seuda Shlishi/Havdalah. Afternoon activities and refreshments will be provided for those who wish to stay in synagogue for the entire day.
The Shabbat celebration will culminate in a Great Neck Havdalah ceremony and concert featuring world-renowned Sandy Shmuely and Band at Great Neck North Middle School auditorium on Saturday evening at 8 pm. The concert is free of charge and another opportunity to show unity with the Great Neck community.
“It’s just one Shabbat. Let’s keep it together”.
