Yom Hashoah Contest 2019

Yom HaShoah Art, Writing & Poetry Contest

This year in honor of Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, the UMJCA has created a contest for the community's youth. Contestants will be given the opportunity to portray their thoughts, feelings, and experiences of the Holocaust in honor of the 6 Million Jewish lives that were lost. Categories: 1- Art; 2- Writing/Poetry; 3- Film & Photography. Each of the three categories will have one winner for Middle School and one winner for High School. Prize: $50 Amazon or iTunes Gift Cards. All Entries must be sent in by April 12th to be reviewed by the judges. Winners will be announced at the Yom HaShoah Memorial event on May 2nd. Mashadi Evening: 2019: Commemorating the 180th anniversary of Allahdadi

On Sunday evening March 31st 2019, corresponding to the 180th anniversary of Allahdadi events, we will be holding a Mashadi Evening, in which our community will remember the Allahdadi incident that took place in Mashad. Be a part of this special event, in which the most significant and defining moments of our history will be shown in a presentation that covers the Allahdadi period of 1839-1925. This will be followed by a pictorial exhibition including some of the most important artifacts in our history. The Allahdadi period has had major affect on our community and is the main reason for our unity and where we are today. It is very important for the younger generation to learn this history. All community members in particular the youth in our community. Please mark your calendars. Passover Rice Information 2019

As per phone conversations with rice importers, Rabbi Eliyahu Ben Haiim has confirmed that the following brands of rice are 100% pure, no additives, or preservatives, or vitamins. Therefore, they are suitable for use for Passover. The following brands are: Colbeh – Deer – Devaaya – Dunar – Empire – Khazana – Kohinoor – Lal Qilla – Royal – Saffron - Shahzadeh – Tilda – Zebra. Please contact your local rabbi for any questions. Please avoid using any enriched rice. The Marriage Committee has conducted research & gathered data on the issue, which has been summarized in a report.
