Car Security & Safety: Three Cars Stolen in Great Neck Last Week

A Message from Kings Point Police Commissioner

I have seen 3 videos of cars in the driveways of homes, all between 3 AM and 6 AM. In two of the videos, I watched a car pull up in front of or near the end of a home driveway. A subject exits that vehicle and walks up to a car in the driveway, In the first video he pulls on the door handle to open the car door, but it doesn’t open, then he turns around and walks back to the car they arrived in and leaves empty handed. In the second video the subject pulls on the door handle of the Range Rover, he gets into the car, but it doesn’t start because the key fob is not in the car. The subject exits that car and then pulls on the door handle of another high end SUV parked in the driveway, but that car door is locked. The subject then turns toward the street and walks back to the car he came in and leaves, empty handed. In the third video I watch a car pas the end of the driveway, then a subject on foot appears alongside the High End SUV, he tries the door handle, and the unlocked door opens. The subject enters the car, steps on the brake and pushes the STOP/START button and the car starts, because the KEY Fob was left in the car. The subject closes the door and backs out of the driveway, then heads to New Jersey. We called a New Jersey State Trooper Detective that we have been working with for a number of years, right away and luckily that SUV was recovered. In the end, not leaving any Key Fobs in the car would seem to shut off the car thieves before they get started! Hiding the Key Fobs in the car is not good enough! Please do not leave the Key Fobs in the cars. Submitted by Mehran Hakimian
