NEW SUNDAY 9:15 AM FATHER & SON PRAYER! Ohr Esther & Talmud Torah proudly presents: “Talmud Tefillah”, where your kids learn to pray. Light snacks + raffle prize. Sunday 9:15 AM (dads must leave by 10:15 sharp - before Talmud Torah). Don’t forget your tefillin or your kids!
JOKE OF THE WEEK: Q: Why did Moses stop to see the burning bush? A: It was ‘berry’ interesting.
SHALOM BAYIT TIP: Get into a habit of THANKING each other. Gratitude is a powerful relationship builder.
JEWISH FACT: To “emulate G-d’s ways” (Deut 28:9) means to show mercy and righteousness. Some examples are burying the dead, visiting the sick, and other unilateral acts of kindness.
The Jews cry out to Hashem from harsh slavery. Moses demands Pharoah let them go, and Aaron performs signs. Egypt is struck with 7/10 plagues: Blood, frogs, lice, flies, pestilence, boils, hail. Pharoah repeatedly “hardens hearts” and does not let them go.

With great sadness we have learned that Mr. Sheldon Adelson, one of the biggest supporters of the State of Israel and Jewish life around the world has passed away at the age of 87. Mr. Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam are known philanthropists that have contributed to many Jewish causes and were the strongest supporters of the Trump administration regarding the statue of Israel in the US politics. Supervisory Council Announcement

Dear Community Members,
The Supervisory Council of UMJCA has been trying to organize the elections for the Mashadi Sisterhood and the Youth Committee. This election was scheduled for last November and unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we had no choice for the safety of the community to postpone it. We initially had postponed it for February 2021, however, due to the rising cases in our community and with a consultation with UMJCA Central Board, we do not believe it is safe to conduct such an election still in February. We are now planning to have these elections safely in April 2021 and we will update the community as we get closer to the election time. In the meantime, we would like to thank both the Sisterhood and Youth Committee for their patience, continued leadership and hard work. We like to wish the community continued safety,

UMJCA Calendar Reservation Update

December 24, 2020

Dear Community Members, Earlier this year, as we fell into the COVID-19 pandemic, we made some modifications to the UMJCA calendar reservation rules and made the calendar available online to help families make their necessary adjustments quickly. As we continue through this process and for purposes of security, we have taken the calendar off open-to-public access and will only make it available upon request to those that need visibility. The temporary COVID rules will still apply for the time being. If you need to view the calendar for a future event you wish to reserve, please send an email to calendar@umjca.org to request access. We ask that all calendar reservations and questions be made by email for the time being. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you. UMJCA Central Board. Submitted by Nasi Gorjian.

Mashadi Bikkur Cholim Introduces CAPE

Mashadi Bikkur Cholim has been building relationships and negotiating for many months to be able to introduce CAPE to our community members. This will be a great benefit as the need for private therapy has increased during the pandemic, has been very hard to find, is expensive and usually not covered by insurance. CAPE has 12 licensed therapists, each specialized with decades of experience, as well as a psychiatrist and nurse practitioner who can dispense medication.

If you missed the informative Cape Zoom Session that took place Last Week, please click Here for the youtube video

How do you apply for services at CAPE?

Call: 718-224-0566 or email: cape@commonpointqueens.org. The CAPE coordinators will ask for your demographic information such as: name, address, phone contact, birthdate and insurance information. They will also discuss the primary reason you are contacting them. Please feel comfortable giving them this information and stating that you are part of the Mashadi Community. All information are kept strictly confidential. you will then be assigned a therapist who will contact you to intake your information and reason for your contacting CAPE which could take up to two sessions. After that, you will be assigned and matched to a psychotherapist who is usually the same therapist who initially contacts you but not always. Cape bills almost all insurance including Medicare and Medicaid. There will be a sliding scale for those who can not afford co-pay; which UJA will assist. No one who could benefit from Cape's services will be denied care for financial reasons. Submitted by Ramin Mardkha.
