OHR ESTHER WEEKLY DIGEST: 2-25-21
MEGILLA BEFORE SHABBAT! No time in the morning? No problem! Ohr Esther is hosting an express Megilla reading before Mincha this Friday, at 4:50 PM.
JOKE OF THE WEEK: Q: Why do we fast before the Megilla, then curse the memory of Haman after reading? A: Because its hard to stay angry after eating Hamantashans…
SHALOM BAYIT TIP: We all get angry with our spouses, but Dr John Gottman says that “sorry isn’t good enough” is usually a result of general marital discontent. The happier the marriage, the faster the forgiveness. Try to work past the small issue to find the deeper problem.
JEWISH FACT: Our tradition holds that both the written Torah (the 5 books of Moses) & the Oral tradition were given to Moses on Mt Sinai. The Oral Torah was passed down verbally for many generations until it was eventually canonized by Rabbi Yehuda Ha’Nasi (President/Prince). (Another canon called the Talmud extrapolates the debates and attempts to clarify & codify the practice.)
PARSHA RUNDOWN: Tetzaveh! Hashem gives instructions to make the Kohen’s clothing & accessories. The breastplate is an array of 4 rows x 3 of precious stones. Instructions for coronation of priests (bull, 2 rams, matzah, & oil) including putting blood on the ear, thumb & toe of kohen.

Mashadi Bikkur Cholim Introduces CAPE
Mashadi Bikkur Cholim has been building relationships and negotiating for many months to be able to introduce CAPE to our community members. This will be a great benefit as the need for private therapy has increased during the pandemic, has been very hard to find, is expensive and usually not covered by insurance. CAPE has 12 licensed therapists, each specialized with decades of experience, as well as a psychiatrist and nurse practitioner who can dispense medication.
How do you apply for services at CAPE?
Call: 718-224-0566 or email: cape@commonpointqueens.org. The CAPE coordinators will ask for your demographic information such as: name, address, phone contact, birthdate and insurance information. They will also discuss the primary reason you are contacting them. Please feel comfortable giving them this information and stating that you are part of the Mashadi Community. All information are kept strictly confidential. you will then be assigned a therapist who will contact you to intake your information and reason for your contacting CAPE which could take up to two sessions. After that, you will be assigned and matched to a psychotherapist who is usually the same therapist who initially contacts you but not always. Cape bills almost all insurance including Medicare and Medicaid. There will be a sliding scale for those who can not afford co-pay; which UJA will assist. No one who could benefit from Cape's services will be denied care for financial reasons. Submitted by Ramin Mardkha. |

A Program by the American Sephardi Federation
Feb 28 @ 8:30 PM EST - The Jews of Iran Part 2 with Ruben Shimonov: https://www.qesher.com/the-jews-of-iran-part-2/
The course is led by Dr. Daniel Tsadik and features other academics from around the world. Jews have been living in the Middle East, and particularly Iran, even before the advent of Islam. Iran has a long history with varying dynasties, dynastic changes, and evolving borders and Jews have been there continuously throughout these changes. Throughout the ascent of Islam in its different forms, Jews were integrated, at times, more and at times, less economically. There were times of intellectual and spiritual growth as well as suppression and persecution.
